137 New COVID Cases Since Last Report on Friday in Steuben

BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 137 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19 since Saturday.  This brings the total to 2,520 confirmed cases, 426 of which are currently active. 

The individuals are residents of the:

·         City of Corning (11)

·         City of Hornell (18)

·         Town of Addison (2)

·         Town of Avoca (2)

·         Town of Bath (2)

·         Town of Cameron (3)

·         Town of Campbell (3)

·         Town of Canisteo

·         Town of Caton (2)

·         Town of Cohocton (2)

·         Town of Corning (8)

·         Town of Dansville (7)

·         Town of Erwin (8)

·         Town of Fremont (1)

·         Town of Greenwood

·         Town of Hornby (4)

·         Town of Hornellsville (4)

·         Town of Howard (2)

·         Town of Jasper (2)

·         Town of Lindley

·         Town of Prattsburgh

·         Town of Thurston

·         Town of Troupsburg (2)

·         Town of Tuscarora (4)

·         Town of Urbana (12)

·         Town of Wayland (2)

·         Town of Wayne

·         Town of West Union

·         Town of Woodhull (2)

·         Village of Addison (7)

The individuals are isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department.  Public Health staff investigated and identified close contacts of the confirmed cases and exposure risks.  All those known to have direct contact with the individuals have been notified. 

Per CDC and New York State Department of Health guidance, information is collected beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or date of test if asymptomatic through the day of the positive test result to identify any potential exposure risks. 

The investigations indicate:

·         34 individuals had contact with previously reported Steuben positives

·         Nine individuals had contact with positive(s) for Thanksgiving

·         12 individuals had contact with positives from other counties

·         10 individuals are residents or rehab patients of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center

·         Two individuals are residents of Absolut Care Three Rivers

·         One individual is a resident of Corning Center

·         Three individuals are employees of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center and/or Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital

·         One individual is an employee of the Country Valley Home in Bath

·         Three individuals are employees of Guthrie Corning Hospital

·         One individual is an employee of the Guthrie Cancer Center in Corning

·         One individual is an employee of St. James Hospital

·         One individual is an employee of UR Medicine Primary Care in Hornell

·         Two individuals are employees of UPS in Painted Post

·         Two individuals are employees of Alstom in Hornell

·         Five individuals are employees of Corning, Inc.: two at Sullivan Park, one not specified, one at CMS Plant, one at Big Flats

·         One individual is a student of Hugh Gregg Elementary School 

·         One individual is a student of Canisteo-Greenwood Elementary School

·         One individual is a student of Bryant Elementary

·         One individual is a student of Tuscarora Elementary

·         One individual is a student of Addison High School

·         One individual is an employee of Addison Middle School

·         One individual is a student of Corning-Painted Post High School

·         One individual is an employee of Calvin U. Smith Elementary School

·         Three individuals are students of Hornell High School

·         One individual is an employee of Hornell High Schools

·         One individual is an employee of Whitesville Central School

·         One individual has reported visiting the Hornell Moose and one individual has reported visiting the Hornell VFW on dates already reported by previous positives along with additional dates: those who have been at the Hornell Moose or Hornell VFW in the past two weeks should monitor for symptoms and/or get tested

In addition to the locations noted above, the individuals reported visiting the following locations that could pose an exposure risk within their investigation timeframes:

·         12/2, 12/4, 12/7 Evening – Wegmans in Corning

·         12/3 – The Children’s Place in Arnot Mall

·         12/3, 12/4 – Home Depot in Painted Post

·         12/3, 12/6, 12/9, 12/12 – Walmart in Hornell

·         12/4 – Walgreens in Corning

·         12/5 – 12/7 – American Legion in Big Flats

·         12/6, 12/7 – Save A Lot in Hornell 

·         12/6 Morning – Hillside Baptist Church in Hornell

·         12/6 – 12/8 – Zack’s Grill in Pine City

·         12/7 – Garcia’s Barbershop in Hornell

·         12/7, 12/8 – Auto Plus Auto Parts in Hornell

·         12/7, 12/8 – Body by Brian in Hornell

·         12/7, 12/8 – Corning Youth Center

·         12/7 -12/11 – TTA in Hornell

·         80 – 89 years: 9

·         90 – 99 years: 1

“The spread of COVID-19 continues to be at a level that is unsafe for the community,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “Please consider what steps you can take to slow the spread as we continue this holiday season.  What safety measures and changes can you implement so we do not continue to see such high numbers of cases and deaths each week?” 

All residents should continue to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell and contact their healthcare provider for instructions if feeling ill.
