State Police investigating a serious personal injury accident involving a State Trooper on I-190 in Buffalo

PRESS RELEASE

On September 26, 2020, at approximately 5:40 a.m. the New York State Police investigated a serious personal injury crash involving a State Police patrol car that occurred on I-190 northbound in the city of Buffalo, Erie County.

A preliminary investigation has determined that the State Trooper was parked on the shoulder, investigating an unrelated accident, at mile marker 7.6.  The Trooper was awaiting a tow for a Budget rental truck when the Dodge Charger patrol car was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Tahoe.  The collision caused the troop car to be pushed into the rental truck.

The Trooper was transported to Erie County Medical Center for serious, non-threatening injuries.  The two occupants of the Chevy Tahoe were also transported to ECMC for minor injuries. Troop A BCI and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to assist.

The names are being withheld at this time as the investigation continues.  More information will be released when possible.
