For Immediate Release: Parents of children in school in Allegany County

The Allegany County Department of Health (ACDOH) is asking parents of school children, if you or a member of your household is sick with COVID-19 like symptoms please stay home and keep your children home as well.

Staying home and keeping your children home can stop potential contacts and exposures to COVID-19. Call your doctor or the Allegany County Department of Health to discuss the person’s symptoms to see if anyone may need to be tested for COVID-19.

The symptoms you are watching for are:

• Fever higher than 100.4/chills

• Headache

• Cough

• Shortness of breath

• Vomiting/diarrhea

• Sore throat

• Loss of taste or smell

• Nasal congestion or runny nose

• Fatigue

• Body or muscle aches

Keeping everyone home when one household member is sick with one or more of these symptoms is an easy way to keep school and community members healthy. Staying home means no visitors to the house or even going to visit relatives. This means keeping your children away from friends, neighbors, babysitters, and relatives.

This will help the Allegany County Department of Health (ACDOH) and your school district by limiting contacts in the community, at work, and at school. When someone tests positive for COVID-19, the ACDOH talks to the positive case or their parents about who their contacts were. The infectious period of the positive case depends on whether the person had symptoms or a COVID-19 test for another reason.

The Allegany County Department of Health would like to thank the members of the Bolivar-Richburg school district and the community for your assistance with our most recent COVID-19 situation. Those community members who talked to our staff on the telephone over the last few days were helpful to stopping the spread of COVID-19 in their school and community.

For questions about COVID-19 testing if you or a household member has symptoms, please call your health care provider or the Allegany County Department of Health at 585-268-9250.
