Fillmore - Fillmore - Robert A. Whiting of 9712 Council House Road died Saturday, September 26, 2020 in his home. He was born on August 7, 1938 in Morrisville, VT, a son of the late Roland and Ruby Davis Whiting. He married Joan Moller who predeceased him. Later in 1989 in Ontario he married Martha Osborne who survives.
Robert was a former employee of General Dynamics in Quincy, Mass where he worked in the shipyard on nuclear submarine. Afterward he became employed at Houghton College as a mechanic until his retirement.
He loved cars, so much so that he built a 1933 Ford Pickup and a 1932 Plymouth Roadster which he raced. Robert also enjoyed the Fillmore go kart races, collecting gas pump and oil memorabilia. He and Martha hosted the annual Whiting Pig Roast during the 1990’s.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Penny (Craig) Rider of Jamestown, Kris Hall of Canandaigua, Robert (Candace) Whiting of Lewisburg, PA, Lynelle (Eric) Fiegl of Springwater, James (Jennifer) Whiting of Jamestown, John (Alisa) Hall of Rochester, Geoffrey (Heidi) Hall of Lancaster, 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Jackson of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife and parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Booth, a grandson, Stephen Crowell, and two sisters, Anne Whiting and Lorraine Flood.
Family and friends may gather from 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore. A private committal service will be held on October 11, 2020 in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica.
