For Immediate Release: COVID-19 statistics for Allegany County
The Allegany County Department of Health (ACDOH) would like to remind residents that the COVID-19 statistics for Allegany County are driven by the specifics of each confirmed case, the number of people released from quarantine/isolation each day and the number added to quarantine/isolation each day.
In Allegany County, we have three colleges/universities who report COVID-19 statistics of their own. It is important to remember that each college campus is made up of students who live on campus, students who live off campus, students and employees who commute from Allegany County, and students and employees who commute form other counties in New York State and even the state of Pennsylvania. For ACDOH purposes, those that live out of county or state would be reported under that county or state. So ACDOH numbers will almost always differ from the college numbers based on the county or state of residence. If a student or employee lives out of state or county, they may be transferred to that state or county for follow-up after the investigation is complete.
Important things to remember:
Remember not all employees and students at our 3 colleges/universities are residents of Allegany County so our numbers will not always increase by the numbers recorded by the 3 colleges/universities. Some cases and/or contacts will be counted by the counties or state where they live.
Remember these are not just numbers, these are people who live and work or go to school in Allegany County. Some may be older adults, some may be younger adults, and some may be children. Some are sick and some are healthy. All are worried. Try to think of yourself in their situation which they cannot control. Let’s give them support and privacy.
