From Canisteo Police Chief Kyle Amidon:
On Tuesday September 8th, 2020 at or about 9:00p.m. while in the Village of Canisteo, officers of the Village of Canisteo Police Department performed a traffic stop on Greenwood Street in the Village of Canisteo. An Officer approached operator, Thomas C. Davis (Age 40), of Hathaway Drive in Farmington, New York at which time Davis fled from the officer in a White Chevrolet Van on County Route 28 in the Town of Canisteo continuing into the Town of Hartsville and into the Town of Alfred for approximately 20 miles and returning back to County Route 28 where a motor vehicle accident occurred involving Mr. Davis’s vehicle and a Canisteo Village Police Department marked patrol vehicle near the intersection of County Route 28 and Bearlick Hollow Road in the Town of Hartsville. Davis then fled the vehicle on foot and was apprehended by officers in a nearby wooded area with the assistance of the Canisteo Village Police Department K9 Unit (Dex). During the investigation Davis was allegedly found in possession of Methamphetamines along with other drug paraphernalia.
Davis was arrested for the charges of Reckless Endangerment 1st (7 counts) – Class D Felony, Tampering with physical evidence- Class E Felony, Unlawful Fleeing from a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle- Class A Misdemeanor, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd- Class A Misdemeanor, Resisting Arrest- Class A Misdemeanor, Criminal Position of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree- Class A Misdemeanor, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree- Class E Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree- Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving- Misdemeanor, Unlicensed Operator, Failure to comply to a Police Officer, Speed in Zone, Failure to Keep to the Right along with more possible pending charges and traffic tickets. The pursuit and accident scene were assisted by members of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Alfred Village Police Department, Canisteo Village Police Department along with members of the Canisteo Fire Department and Ambulance Crew. Davis was transported to St. James Hospital by Canisteo Ambulance for minor injuries and was treated and released. The Officer involved was treated and released as well. Davis was transported to the Steuben County Centralized Arraignment where he was remanded to the Steuben County Jail on no bail.
