Wellsville Secondary School implements new safety measures

New safety measures were implemented Tuesday in front of the Wellsville Secondary School on West State Street.  The solar controlled speed signs let motorists know if they need to back off the pedal. The signs are located on both sides of the school. Emily Peavey is the School Business Executive. She told us the Safety Committee began work in January and the signs at the school were a top priority. She called the measure a "big initiative." Peavey said the school has worked with the Village to coordinate the efforts. Signs in front of the Friendship school were used as a model. Peavey said the street is highly used and traffic will increase when the Wellsville campus of Alfred State goes into session. When asked, one pedestrian said "it's about time." The street in front of the school will be striped with crosswalks and other markers.
