Kendall H. "Ken" Wetherby, of 2335 Route 305,
passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving
wife.
Ken was born Nov. 16, 1932 in Ischua and was a son of
Charles and Phoebe Clayson Wetherby. On March 5, 1966, in Port Allegany, PA, he
married his wife of 51 years, Helen E. Johnson, who survives.
Ken was a 1950 graduate of Franklinville High School. He
enlisted in the US Air Force and served from Jan. 31, 1952 to Jan. 30, 1956.
Ken worked at American-Olean Tile for period of time before his Air Force
Service and returned to work there after from 1956 to 1973. He then took a
Tractor trailer driving course in Scranton, Pa and then was hired by
Stroehmann's Bakery as a truck driver. Ken drove for Stroehmann's from 1975
until 1997 and was proud to be a "Million Mile Driver". Upon his
retirement from Stroehmann's he began working at Team Chevy in Olean again as a
driver this time of cars. He retired from Team in 2015.
Ken enjoyed four wheeling, board games & playing cards,
county music. He will be remembered as man who truly loved life. He loved his
wife and family and enjoyed spending time with them. Along with his loving
wife, Ken is survived by six children, Ronald J. (Donna) Wetherby of Olean,
David A. (Rena) Nease, Jr. of Bolivar, Vicky L. Fox of Olean, Gerald K. (Robyn)
Nease of Cuba, Danielle F. (Jim) Phearsdorf of Allegany and Kendall H. (Amy)
Wetherby, Jr. of Hinsdale; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three
siblings, Raymond Wetherby of Bolivar, Geraldine Baham of Florida and Harold
Wetherby of Knapp Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased
by two sisters, Fanny Morgan and Gwenivere Germaine.
Private graveside
services will be held at the convenience of the family in Mt. View Cemetery,
Veteran Field of Honor. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Home
Care & Hospice 1225 West State Street, Olean, NY 14760 or to the
Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department PO Box 132 West Clarksville, NY 14786.
