Obituary: Dorothy B. "Dot" Zuver, 75, Belfast



Dorothy B. "Dot" Zuver, 75, of 7177 Gleason Hill South Rd., went home to be with her LORD on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in The Absolut of Houghton following a lengthy illness. Born November 10, 1941 in Belfast, she was the daughter of George Wesley and Gertrude Matilda (Hanft) Boyd. On March 13, 1965 in the Belfast Free Methodist Church, she married James R. "Skip" Zuver, Jr, who predeceased her on July 11, 2009.
Dorothy had grown up in the Town of Belfast and was a graduate of Belfast Central School, class of 1959. Later, she attended Houghton College receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. Her first teaching position was in South Kortright, Delaware County, NY, where she taught first grade. In 1970 she and her husband moved to their present home on Gleason Hill Rd. where they raised their family. Dorothy taught Pre School in the basement of the Belfast Free Methodist Church for several years. She then attended SUNY Geneseo to receive her Masters degree in Special Education. Following this she taught the Resource Room at Angelica/Genesee Valley Central School, where she then retired from teaching. Her last place of employment was at the Absolut of Houghton, where she worked in the kitchen and loved visiting with the residents. One of whom was her sister, Joan (Jodi) Boyd.
Dorothy enjoyed attending church services, singing hymns, teaching Sunday school, reading her Bible, flower gardening, walks in the woods, cooking marshmallows/hotdogs, sledding in winter with her Grandchildren; and cooking wild game. She also loved her dog, Laddie, and loved giving him very custom haircuts. Most of all she loved her LORD, her family and spending time with them.
She was a member of the Belfast Free Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Chad E. (Denise) Zuver and James W. (Crystal) Zuver both of Belfast; a daughter, Patricia (Jeff) Krotz of Belfast; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty (Harold) Weaver of Belfast, June (John) Lamonski of Lumber Bridge, NC, and Joan "Jodi" Boyd of Houghton; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, June M. Collins; and a sister, Corinne Elsie Crosby.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Belfast Free Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Robert J. Mackmer, Pastor will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Belfast Free Methodist Church or the Allegany Co. SPCA.
