Obituary: Jane Ann Sznajder, 71, Fillmore native


Pinellas Park, FL --- Jane Ann Sznajder passed away peacefully the morning of December 29, 2016 at her Pinellas Park, Florida home with her husband, family, and beloved dog, Bear, by her side.  Jane was born September 1, 1945 in Fillmore, New York, a daughter of the late Charles Edmund and Gladys Bundy McCarthy. She married Stephen P. Sznajder who survives. She was a proud graduate of Angelica High School in 1963.  She also graduated from the Rochester Business Institute in 1965.  Jane moved to Hartford, CT, where she met the love of her life, Stephen P.  Sznajder.  They were married October 15, 1966 at Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Fillmore, NY.  They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a "wedding vow renewal" ceremony and Mass in July 2016 also at St. Patrick's.   The couple settled in West Suffield, Connecticut to raise their family.  The couple have been life long active members of the Catholic Church.  She was an active member of her town library board and also served the town in other capacities.   Jane was employed in the insurance industry and worked for Ahrens, Fuller, St. John, and Vincent Insurance Company, Suffield, CT for over twenty years prior to her retirement in 2000.   She loved nature and her cherished dogs, Buddy, Benjamin, Barney, and Bear.  She was devoted to her family and dedicated to her children, grandchildren, parents, and friends.  She was the number one fan of the University of Connecticut (UConn) Women's Basketball Team for over twenty years.  A fun loving person always, Jane enjoyed weekends at their New Hampshire lake cottage with her husband and their friends playing cards, charades, scrabble, and dominoes.  Laughter and good cheer always were in abundance in New Hampshire.  

Jane, with her husband, returned home to Western New York (Arcade) in 2007 to be closer to her father, family, and local friends.  Being able to spend more time with her father, Sister Deborah, brother-in-law Clarence, nieces, nephews, and close friends made her happy and at peace.  She loved visiting Letchworth Park and the Glen Iris Inn and remembering the times she shared with her mother at the Inn as a child.  Jane also enjoyed hosting family reunions over the last ten years at her home at Lake Hiram, Arcade, NY.  

Jane Loved Life!!   Jane enriched people's lives.  She will be greatly missed by many.  

Jane is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, her two children, Kathy J. Thompson, Hendersonville, NC, Stephen B. Sznajder, Stafford, VA; two grandsons, Jeffrey Thompson and Travis Thompson, Hendersonville, NC; two sisters, her sister and best friend Deborah (Doug) Wilson of Kenmore, NY, Carol McCarthy of Perrysburg, NY, two brothers, Charles McCarthy, Eugene (Raquel) McCarthy both of Angelica, NY, many loving nieces and nephews and many lifelong devoted friends from everywhere she lived.  

In addition to her parents she was preceded into eternal life by two brothers Edmund and Patrick, her beloved sister Mary McCarthy Cartwright and a brother in law, Clarence Cartwright. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Fillmore, NY. Fr. Dennis JJ Mancuso will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fillmore.
