Obituary: Carol J. Sheflin (Hoffman), 70, formerly of Canaseraga


Canaseraga - Carol J. Sheflin (Hoffman), 70, formerly of Canaseraga NY, passed away Thursday afternoon (July 13, 2017) surrounded by family following a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
 She was born in Hornell, NY on May 5, 1947, the daughter of the late Maxwell and Rose (Doll) Hoffman.
Carol was a 1965 graduate of Canaseraga Central School and an active member of the community for many years before moving to Virginia in 2008. In addition to raising her children at home she also worked with the Town of Burns Assessor's office, Marion Rohr Corporation, Ames Department Store, Wayside Nursery, Forbes Products and was also a US Census Taker.
Carol’s passion was gardening and known by the community as the “go-to” for plant knowledge. She was active with the Cornell Cooperative Extension while in New York and a certified Master Gardener while in the state of Virginia. She loved sharing her passion for plants, flowers, and gardening with others and evidence of her generosity can be found in many states across the country.
A lifelong DIY (Do It Yourself) expert, Carol dabbled in everything from soap to home improvements and canning to furniture refinishing. She will also be remembered for her inventive spirit and great sense of humor.
Carol is survived by three children, Elizabeth (Jackson) Sieglinger of Ventura, CA, Virginia Sheflin of Buffalo, NY and Cliff Smith of Patrick Springs, VA; four siblings, Maxine (Frank) Downey of Holley, NY, Marie Hoffman (Bits Neary) of Naples, NY, Tom (Fran) Hoffman of Arkport NY, David Hoffman of Naples, NY and two beloved grandsons Elliot and Miles Sieglinger.
The family thanks everyone for their support, cards and kind words, over the past few months.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, (July 25th, 2017) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  Graveside services will be held at the family cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday July 26th.
An open luncheon/dinner to celebrate Carol's life journey will be held at the Canaseraga American Legion at 83 W. Main Street, Canaseraga, NY immediately following the graveside service on Wednesday (July 26, 2017) at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome and invited.
