Homicides are few and far between in rural Allegany County. When they do occur, they are often solved within a day. Sometimes, the alleged killer is taken into custody at the scene without incident.
However, the recent murder of a beloved man in the Town of Ward has altered the dynamics, somewhat. Earlier this month, a man was found shot to death inside his Town of Ward home. No arrest has been made yet. At last check (today) with police, no 'person of interest' has been (publicly) identified.
In cases like this, based on my 33 years of media experience, police tend to hold their cards close to the vest.
State Police uniformed troopers and members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation have worked doggedly on this case. Law enforcement sources have told me that police have worked around the clock, conducted 'abundant' interviews and searched for clues.
Despite the nonstop efforts, there has been no arrest...yet.
This morning, I received an email from a concerned neighbor near the crime scene. The concern was...little info, no arrest, "is there a murderer nearby?" The resident expressed 'concern, fear.'
Investigators have been as open as they can be with WRN. I've been told this case is the 'highest priority.' The investigation is around the clock. "We are still actively seeking assistance from the public. We are asking the area residents to continue to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity," I was told.
This murder investigation has the State Police on alert. They are pouring significant resources into the investigation.
It may not calm the nerves of the residents of the area, but rest assured, police are on this case.
