People rescued in Livingston County house fire

LIMA - Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty advises of a house fire that occurred Sunday morning in the Village of Lima. On March 3rd, 2024 at approximately 8:35am, Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded to Rochester Street in the Village of Lima for the report of a house fire. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and discovered smoke and fire coming from the residence. Two female occupants who escaped the fire advised that a male was still trapped inside the residence. Fire Departments from Lima, East Avon, Livonia, Honeoye Falls and Scottsville all assisted at the scene. Livingston County ALS, Lima EMS, Livonia EMS and Honeoye Falls EMS all responded to assist with treating and transporting victims.

In addition, the NYS Police and the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management assisted at the scene. Fire personnel, with assistance from Sheriff’s Office members, were able to rescue the trapped victim. The victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition, along with one of the female occupants who is also listed in stable condition. The third occupant was treated by EMS at the scene and not transported.

Handling the on scene operations and investigations for the Sheriff’s Office were members of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Forensic Identification Unit; all with the assistance of the Communications Bureau.

The fire remains under investigation by our Office with the preliminary cause being that of accidental in nature.
