Six ACCORD staff earn Family Development Credential

Chelsea Gadley, Katelyn Schrader, Casey Burgess, Halie Silsby, Emma Waterman and Brooke Allen all successfully completed 90 hours of in-person training from October 2019-October 2020 to earn a Family Development Credential (FDC) from the University of Connecticut.

The Family Development Credential© training program is a college-level learning opportunity for staff or community members who provide direct services to individuals and families. The FDC is issued by the University of Connecticut upon successful completion of 90 hours of classroom instruction, submission of a written portfolio, and a passing grade on the FDC exam. Those who complete the course and pass an exam will earn a credential, equivalent to up to 7 college credits. Current instructors at ACCORD are Belinda Knight, Amy Lehman and Trina LaFleur. ACCORD has trained over 175 staff and community members.

Knight stated, “The Family Development Credential training program has been offered to employees and community members from ACCORD and other agencies since the late 1990’s. Formal training in the family development methodology ensures that staff have the tools necessary to approach their work with families from a perspective that builds on a person’s strengths, to help individuals set and achieve their own goals for their family on their own terms.”

ACCORD’s next class, which starts January 28, 2021, will meet monthly until September 2021. The cost of the course is $1,100 and includes the credential fee, course fee and all materials.
