Born in Hornell, December 10, 1945 the son of Everett and Mary (Ream) Swain, he had resided the vast majority of his life in Canaseraga. John worked as an over the road truck driver for many years and was a member of the Canaseraga Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, particularly that of the musical group Mannheim Steamroller, and had a special interest in steam and model trains. John was also a Ham Radio Operator broadcasting under the call sign of KE2XX.
He was predeceased by both parents, his two brothers; Everett and Dale Swain as well as a granddaughter; Hannah Swain on March 3, 2015 and his son; Leslie Swain in 2018. John is survived by his wife; Marjorie (Abbey) Swain, three sons; Bret Swain of Florida; Aaron (Stacy) Swain of Cohocton and Brian Swain of Canaseraga, one Daughter; Danielle (Alan) Love of Canaseraga, two grandchildren; Cayson Love of Canaseraga and Lillian Swain of Cohocton, one niece; Penny (Michael) Morrone of Maryland, one brother in law; Jon Abbey of Wayland, two sisters in law; Janelle (Carl) Schmidt of Trinity, Texas and Hope Abbey of Dansville, many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family.
