BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 45 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total to 2,609 confirmed cases, 456 of which are currently active.
The individuals are residents of the:
· City of Corning (6)
· City of Hornell (7)
· Town of Avoca
· Town of Bath
· Town of Campbell (2)
· Town of Canisteo
· Town of Caton (3)
· Town of Corning
· Town of Erwin (4)
· Town of Greenwood (2)
· Town of Howard
· Town of Lindley (2)
· Town of Troupsburg
· Town of Wayland
· Town of Woodhull (4)
· Village of Addison (3)
· Village of Bath (4)
· Village of Cohocton
The individuals are isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department. Public Health staff investigated and identified close contacts of the confirmed cases and exposure risks. All those known to have direct contact with the individuals have been notified.
Per CDC and New York State Department of Health guidance, information is collected beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or date of test if asymptomatic through the day of the positive test result to identify any potential exposure risks.
The investigations indicate:
· 10 individuals had contact with previously reported Steuben positives
· Two individuals are employees of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center
· One individual is an employee of Bethany Village in Horseheads
· One individual is a resident of the County Valley Home in Bath
· Two individuals are employee of Corning, Inc. at Sullivan Park
· One individual is an employee of Arnot Ogden Medical Center
· One individual is an employee of Guthrie Big Flats
· One individual is an employee of American Medical Response in Corning
· One individual is an employee of the Steuben County Jail
· Three individuals are students of the following schools:
o Frederick Carder Elementary
o Canisteo-Greenwood High School
o GST BOCES Wildwood
o Hornell High School
· Four individuals are employees of the following schools:
o Corning-Painted Post Central School District
o Canisteo-Greenwood High School
o Jasper-Troupsburg Central School District
· Two unconnected individuals reported visiting the Elks Club in Hornell on 12/10; one also visited on 12/9
In addition to the locations noted above, the individuals reported visiting the following locations that could pose an exposure risk within their investigation timeframes:
· 12/3, 12/4, 12/8, 12/9, 12/11, 12/14 – Golden Age Cheese in Woodhull
· 12/3 – 12/6, 12/8, 12/9, 12/11, 12/12 – Dollar General in Hornell
· 12/4, 12/5 Evening, 12/10, 12/11, 12/13 – 12/15 – Walmart in Painted Post
· 12/8 – Thirt13n West Barber Shop in West Elmira
· 12/8 Morning – Wegmans in Elmira
· 12/8 – Sam’s Club in Big Flats
· 12/8 – Walmart in Horseheads
· 12/8 – Erwin Transfer Station
· 12/8, 12/9 – PetSmart in Horseheads
· 12/8 – 12/10 – Simmons Rockwell in Bath
· 12/9, 12/10 – Hornell Association
· 12/10 – The Cutting Edge Salon in Hornell
· 12/10 – Dick’s Sporting Goods in Horseheads
· 12/10, 12/11 – Hornell Children’s Home Day Care
· 12/10, 12/11 – Millstone Veterinary Clinic in Dundee
· 12/11 – Wegmans in Hornell
· 12/11 Afternoon – Nasser Civic Center Ice Rink in Corning
· 12/11 Afternoon – Poppleton Bakery & Café in Corning
· 12/11 Evening – Big Lots in Painted Post

· 0 – 9 years: 4
· 10 – 19 years: 5
· 20 – 29 years: 5
· 30 – 39 years: 7
· 40 – 49 years: 5
· 50 – 59 years: 9
· 60 – 69 years: 4
· 70 – 79 years: 4
· 80 – 89 years: 2
“As difficult and undesirable as it is, it is so important to limit your social circles during this time of high spread in order to have a safe and healthy holiday season ,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “We saw many cases result from gatherings in homes and elsewhere around Thanksgiving. It would be very beneficial to families and for the community to not repeat that trend for upcoming holidays.”
All residents should continue to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell and contact their healthcare provider for instructions if feeling ill.
