PRESS RELEASE Cold Case Tuesday: State Police continue to investigate explosion that seriously injured Trooper. On Friday, October 16, 1981, New York State Trooper George Lachnicht was assigned regular patrol duties, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, out of SP Wolcott, assigned to vehicle R-5062, a 1979 Dodge. Vehicle R-5062 had been parked for approximately 36 hours, when at approximately 7:30 a.m., Trooper Lachnicht started to back up the vehicle near the SP Wolcott garage hours and an explosion occurred. The explosion seriously injured Trooper Lachnicht. Foul play is suspected and an explosive device had been placed under the Troop car. Numerous interviews were conducted over the years with negative results and this case has remained unsolved. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police in Waterloo at (315) 539-9253. |
