The 650-school listing includes both private and public institutions across the country. Houghton was ranked as one of the 199 top institutions in the northeast, among the 399 private colleges, and included among liberal arts universities.
Houghton was one of 30 Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) governing and associate member schools included, and one of four Western New York Consortium of Higher Education institutions to make the list.
Forbes measured metrics covering post-graduate success (alumni salaries and notable alumni), debt (average debt load per student and default rates), student experience (professor and student life ratings), graduation rate, and academic success (nationally recognized academic accomplishments and doctoral studies).
