Wellsville: Village Code Enforcement says - 'cut your grass'

The snow shovels are properly tucked away and now village residents need to deal with the grass. There are a few zombie homes that have wild grass yards that annoy neighbors, and are, well, unsightly. Here are some reminder from the village Code Enforcement Office:
1)    that they are required, under both local and state law, to keep their property mowed. All grass and weeds must be kept under 10” in height. This includes front, sides and back yards. Tall grass can lead to mice, snakes, bugs and other critters that aren’t generally welcomed by homeowner’s and neighbors. (I have 35 properties identified as having tall grass as of 5/31).
2)    New York Sstate also mandates that pools that will hold 24” or greater depth of water require permits and inspections. Both in-ground and above ground pools require a 48” surrounding fence, special gate latches, alarms, are subject to specific rules regarding placement on the lot, and the inspection of electrical wiring. Contact the Code Office for information. While pools can be great fun they also come with responsibilities and liabilities. We want everyone to stay safe.
3)    Do not place bulky trash, discarded electronics, household furnishings, etc. at the curbside, store them on open porches, or in your lawn.
It is the homeowner and/or tenants responsibility to have such items picked up and disposed of properly.
Everyone is outside enjoying the warm weather and no one wants to look at “junk”, deal with unwanted pests, or see anyone injured in an unsafe pool installation.
