SUGAR HILL, GA. – Ray L. Witter, 85, formerly of Andover,
passed away Saturday (Nov. 4, 2017) at Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry. Ga.
Mr. Witter was born March 9, 1932 in Olean to LeRoy E. and
Malita (Clemons) Witter, Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of Olean High School.He
served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. In 1969 he married Janet
Marie Eldredge, who predeceased him in 2010.
Ray worked as a police officer for the Olean Police
Department for 16 years before transferring to the Andover Police Department
where he worked an additional 16 years, retiring in 1989. He was also a
part-time deputy for the Allegany County Sheriff's Office.
Ray is survived by two daughters, Miki Lu Mullins of West
Point, Ga. and Lisa Rae (John) Heineman of Ball Ground, Ga.; two sons, Robert
J. Witter of Columbus, Ga. and Gary Lyle (Lisa) Witter of Sugar Hill, Ga.; one
step-son, Dana J. (Starla) Williams of Greenwood; one brother, Charles (Rose)
Witter of Portville; one sister, Naomi "Tootie" Witter of Olean; and
many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one son,
Daniel Ray Witter; two sisters, Donna Gray and Gloria Bright; and four
brothers, LeRoy E. Witter, Jr., Donald Ward Witter, Richard T. Witter and
Robert J. Witter.
Ray was a Past Master Mason for the Andover Masonic Lodge
558 and an honorary member of the Andover Fire Department. He enjoyed tinkering
on cars and was a life-long dog lover.
Per his wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A
graveside service with full military honors will be held in Georgia National
Cemetery in Canton, Ga. at the convenience of the family.
