Eldridge: Wellsville Dispatcher was an apparent trend setter...ahead of his time

Christopher D. Eldridge
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nov. 22, 2017 BATH - Steuben County residents with special or functional needs - and facilities that serve those needs - may now register with the county Office of Emergency Services’ "Special Needs Registry." The voluntary registry will provide secured, confidential information to emergency response agencies, so responders serve them better during a disaster or other emergencies. The registry may be accessed at https://www.delta-fnr.com/steubenny/Signin
Editor's note: About fifteen years ago, Wellsville Police Department Communications Technician, (the late) Christopher D. Eldridge designed a database to provide this same service for those who lived in the "593" calling prefix in and around Wellsville. The effort by Eldridge earned him a New York State EMS award. That database noted those with special needs, so that the (former) 911 Center in Wellsville could quickly alert First Responders to a potential critical situation. The database proved its point during massive power outages. Former Police Chief Jim Cicirello said at the time "lives were saved."
Eldridge died December 16, 2012 after a long and fearless battle with cancer. Clearly, Eldridge, fondly remembered as "Chief 2" was ahead of his time.
