DEC Statement Regarding Hunting Incident in Sherman, NY

Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) are leading an investigation into a hunting related shooting incident in Sherman, New York. On November 22, 2017, at approximately 5:30 p.m. Rosemary A. Billquist of Sherman, NY was shot once while walking her dogs in a field by a male subject who was hunting in the area. The subject immediately called 9-1-1 and administered first aid on the victim. She was subsequently transported to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA and pronounced dead.
DEC ECOs and Chautauqua county Sheriffs are in the process of reconstructing the crime scene to determine charges against the subject, and additional information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
