Hornell - James D. Saxton, 68, of North Main Street Ext., passed away Thursday (November 16, 2017) at St James Mercy Hospital where he was taken after becoming ill at his home.
Born in Hornell, February 3, 1949, the son of Eugene and Treva Winnie Saxton, he had resided in Hornell all his life. Jim was a graduate of Hornell High School and had attended classes at BOCES. He was employed as a Soil’s Laboratory Technician at the New York State Department of Transportation retiring in 2013 after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Arkport American Legion Post and was very active as a volunteer for the Hornell Literacy Program. Jim enjoyed flower arranging, and he and his wife did arrangement for many weddings over the years. Jim served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
He was predeceased by his parents, his grandparents, his sister in law, Janet Sims and brother in law, Mark Lehman.
He is survived by his wife; Marie Lehman Saxton to whom he was married on June 5, 1971, his special “adopted son” Joe Bacon of Hornell, several nieces and nephews , sisters in law and brothers in law as well as cousins in the Wellsville and Belmont area. He is also survived by his many feline friends; his favorite being “Grey Beard”.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell on Monday (Nov. 20, 2017) from 4 until 7 PM. Military honors will be accorded at 6:45 PM followed by his funeral service at 7 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
