Obituary: Gordon R. Mason, 85, Fillmore


Fillmore --- Gordon R. Mason of 11392 Route 19 died Monday, July 10, 2017 in the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia. He was born on April 9, 1932 in Nunda, a son of the late Clark and Marguerite Lackey Mason. He married Dolores Turner who predeceased him on March 21, 1989.
Gordon was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Richburg Baptist Church and attended the Friends in Christ United Methodist Church in Fillmore. He was also a member of The Grange, the Canaseraga American Legion and the Rural Letters Carriers Association.
He was the owner and operator of Gordon R. Mason Fine Used Cars and Trucks and was an exhibitor at the Wyoming County Fair for over 60 years, drove school bus for Fillmore Central School, was a Rural Letter Carrier in Fillmore for many years, worked for Phillippi Pontiac and John Deere and was the funeral directors assistant for Ray Kopler at Kopler Funeral Home.
Gordon was also an avid chess and checkers player and loved to collect classic cars, his favorite being a 1956 Lincoln.
Surviving are his children, Richard G. (Darlene) Mason of Fillmore, Donald R. (Bettrice) Mason of St. Petersburg, FL, Nancy (Craig) Roth of Fillmore, eight grandchildren, James (Crystal) Mason, Joseph (Karen) Mason, Cathryn (Alex) DeLine, Dalton, Carter and Clinton Mason, Michaela and Corrin Roth, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Robert C. (Kathy) Mason of Buffalo, a sister, Shirley J. Mason and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Wallace E. Mason and C. Walton Mason Jr.
Family and friends may gather from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Friends in Christ United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Sam Wolcott and Pastor Nancy Russell will co-officiate. Burial will be in Alger Cemetery, Fillmore.
