An Alfred State College student was stabbed early this morning at an off-campus house party. Alfred Police Chief Paul Griffith told us this afternoon that the unidentified injured student was found walking on Mill Street near GJ's shortly after 2 a.m. and an ambulance was called. Griffith said the student was stabbed in the leg and was taken to St. James Hospital in Hornell where he was treated and released.
The Chief said a short time later, a man was observed engaged in a disturbance near Shults Hall on Upper College Drive. Police said the man was observed with a knife and he and others, ran into Shults. Griffith confirmed that a knife was recovered, but it is unclear if it has anything to do with the previous stabbing incident. Griffith said state troopers and Wellsville police responded to Alfred State and law enforcement conducted a room to room search for the potential suspect at Shults Hall. Griffith admitted that police were greeted with "a wall of silence." Police continued searching until 6 a.m. Sunday when the area was finally cleared. The suspect was not located.
According to police, the initial stabbing victim reached out to authorities Sunday afternoon and stated he didn't know anything and refused to press charges. Griffith, however, said this will remain an open case for the time being.
