BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences will host a talk on “Google: The Innovation and Regulatory Challenges of an Internet Giant” on March 2.
Dr. Benjamin Gross, assistant professor of sociology at St. Bonaventure University, will be the speaker. The talk will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Rice Auditorium in Fisher Hall. It is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
Gross’s area of specialty is examining the relationships between sociology, politics, and traditional and new media.
In his presentation, he will talk about a decade in which Google’s newest products and corporate practices often run counter to government regulation and oversight. While these products are often popular with the public, not much is known about the potential hazards to users or unethical business practices that may have been employed by Google in the process of new product creation.
Gross has surveyed students at St. Bonaventure and found they know little about these issues and practices and favor more government action once they know more about them.
