Obituary: Lillian M. Simons, 94, Allentown

Allentown, NY - Lillian M. Simons, 94, of 1931 Sheffield Street, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Highland Park Healthcare Center in Wellsville. She was born November 27, 1922 in the Town of Scio, the daughter of Benjamin and Stella (Sortore) Simons.
Lillian was a 1940 graduate of Allentown Union High School and a 1943 graduate of the Two Year Bible School in Houghton. She was employed as the secretary at the Allentown Union High School for 14 years, she was the elementary secretary in Allentown for 21 years and at Scio Central School for five years, before retiring in 1985. She had served both school districts as a census enumerator. She was a committee member of the Allentown Alumni Association. For many years she was the chairman of the Door-to-Door Campaigns for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society for the Allentown Area and later for the Town of Alma. She was a member of the Brookside Wesleyan Church where she was active with the children, youth and adult ministries. She volunteered at area nursing homes, including, Mary’s Nursing Home, Early Street Adult Care and for many years at the Highland Healthcare Center. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Allegany County Saturday Night Youth Rallies, which later became the present Southern Tier Youth for Christ.
She is survived by two nephews, James (Kay) Simons of Mason, MI and Daniel (Sandi) Simons of Evergreen, CO, four nieces, Judith (Neal) Frey of Longview, TX, Sharon (Brian) Stewart Albion, NY, Faith (Lee) Stewart of Cuba, NY, Ellyn (Paul) Sanna of Vestal, NY, as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Raymond and Eleanor Simons and Rev. Eldyn and Elizabeth Simons, and one nephew, Philip Eldyn Simons.
Friends are invited to call on Monday (February 6, 2017) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Brookside Wesleyan Church, Route 417 East in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in church with Rev. Robin George presiding. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont.
