Alfred University: Mystery Package at Powell Campus Center Forces Temporary Closure

A portion of the Alfred University campus was closed today for approximately two hours while public safety officials and New York State Police investigated a report of a suspicious package in the vestibule of the Powell Campus Center. A New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit from Batavia was called to the campus by New York State Police operating out of the Amity barracks. Members of the Unit X-rayed the package and determined it was empty. The area around the Campus Center was reopened at 1:15 p.m. Alfred University Public Safety personnel working in cooperation with State Police deemed the package suspicious because it lacked any mailing or return address information. The university’s Seidlin Hall, Kanakadea Hall and Powell Campus Center were closed and classes in Seidlin and Kanakadea cancelled while police investigated the package.
