A Potter County jury has convicted a man on charges relating to a 2015 crash that killed two women. District Attorney Andy Watson told the Bradford Era that the jury was out for about three hours before finding Derrick Gleason, 32, guilty.
The crash happened in Wharton Township in September 2015. Killed in the crash were Gleason's passengers, Colleen Ackley-Churchill, 31 of Coudersport and Jessica McKay, 34 of Port Allegany. Gleason was also badly injured. Prosecutors said that just prior to the crash, Gleason was traveling nearly 90 mph.
According to the Bradford Era, Gleason was found guilty of two counts of vehicular
homicide; two counts of aggravated assault; one count
of criminal mischief; two counts of involuntary manslaughter;
one count each of simple assault and recklessly
endangering another person; three counts of careless driving;
and one count each of reckless driving, disregarding
traffic lanes, speeding, failing to keep right, limitations of
driving on the left and passing when it was unsafe.
No sentencing date has been set. Gleason is currently in state prison on a parole violation.
