Janice E. Rinker:
Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister
Janice E. Rinker, 73, of 344 North Shore Rd., Cuba Lake,
passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, at Strong Memorial Hospital Rochester
after a brief illness.
Born on September 13, 1943, in Cuba, she was a daughter of
James E. and Jane Lyon Boyd. On July 3,
1965, at Our Lady of Angels Church, Cuba she married Timothy J. Rinker, who
predeceased her on June 27, 2013.
Janice was a graduate of Cuba High School Class of
1961. She went on to Nazareth College
where she received her Bachelor’s degree in high school mathematics. She later went on to receive her master’s
degree from SUNY Geneseo.
After college, she taught locally for several years before
raising her family. She then worked in
the offices at Rinker Oil Corp of Cuba, until her retirement in 2011.
Janice was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church, the Altar
and Rosary Society, and for almost 60 years was the church organist beginning
to play at the age of 14. She also played the hand bells.
She was a member of the Cuba Current Topic Club, Cuba
Historical Society, Keynote Chorus, Genesee Valley Choir, Wellsville Country
Club, and was a member and former treasurer of the Cuba Rushford Alumni
Association. She also was actively
involved with the ShowTime Productions that were sponsored by the Cuba Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary.
Janice was an avid golfer, liked to play cards, especially
euchre, loved to read and travel, but will be remembered by her family, whom
she loved deeply, as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed
living at Cuba Lake and the companionship of her dog Lucy.
Surviving are 4 Daughters; Mary Kathryn (Jerome) Scherzinger
of Fairmont West Virginia, Jacquelyn (Steven) Torsoe of Montebello, Joanne
(Aaron) Dozier of Fort Worth, Texas, Elizabeth (Jon) Zimmerman of Cuba; her
grandchildren Kathryn and Jacob Scherzinger, Kirsten and Kendra Torsoe, Bailey
and Kinsey Dozier; 4 Sisters, Judy V. Boyd of Rochester,
Jane M. (Stephan) Krahe of Flagstaff, Arizona, Barbara E. (Thomas) Sharp of West
Henrietta, Kathryn A. (Richard) Leahy of Mableton, GA; a Step Brother, Brian T.
(Ellen) Monahan of East Hampton, a Step Sister Maureen Schultz of Ronkonkamo; a
Sister in law, Kay Lee Bradley Joiner of Cuba; Several nieces and Nephews. She
was predeceased by her husband, parents and stepmother Jean Monahan Boyd.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home
& Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Wednesday, January 25,
2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2017 at
Our Lady of Angels Church, 50 South Street, Cuba. The Rev. Dennis J.J. Mancuso, will be the
celebrant.
The Rosary will be recited in the funeral home Wednesday
evening at 8:40 p.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.
