Obituary: Gary R. Payne, 64, Wellsville UPDATED


WELLSVILLE – Gary R. Payne, of 4195 Fassett Lane, passed away Thursday (Jan. 19, 2017) at Strong Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
Gary was born June 9, 1952, in Wellsville, and was a son of Dale R. and Virginia M. Liesegang Payne. On July 6, 1974, in Waverly, he married his loving wife, Andrea P. Faber, who survives.
Gary graduated from Wellsville High School in 1970. He started working at Jones Memorial Hospital in 1987, where he continued for over 30 years, and was currently working as a Licensed Respiratory Tech. Gary was a member of the Sons of the Wellsville American Legion and the Legion Riders, where he served as the Sergeant at Arms. He formerly umpired high school baseball games.
Gary enjoyed riding motorcycle, camping, shooting guns, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and being at home.
Along with his loving wife, Gary is survived by 2 children, Greg R. C. (Elaina Rawson) Payne of Wellsville, and Christina A. (Jeremy) Watson of Belmont; 4 grandchildren, Hunter, Taylor, Dylan and Ethan; 3 siblings, Skip (Barb) Payne of Florida, Babe Payne of Wellsville, and Doug (Holly) Payne of Brockport; many nieces and nephews; an aunt, Arlouine Straussner of Wellsville.
Gary was predeceased by a brother, Daniel J. Payne, who died on April 15, 1995.
Friends will be received at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, #34 West State Street, Wellsville where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday (Jan. 26, 2017) at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Legion Riders through the Wellsville American Legion, 23 Jefferson Street, Wellsville, New York 14895.
