Greenwood - Vera J. Horton, 87, formerly of Greenwood and Horseheads, passed away early Tuesday Morning (Jan. 24, 2017) at the home of her daughter in Endicott, NY.
She had resided with her family during her recent illness.
Born in Greenwood, January 3, 1930, the daughter of Wyman and Elizabeth Atwell Krusen, she had resided in several areas of the country. She was a graduate of Greenwood Central School and the Dermalway School in Elmira where she received her training as a licensed hairdresser. She owned and operated “The Glamour Shop” in Greenwood for several years.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ronald Horton in 2008, and a close friend, Ronald Gilbert in January 2017.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Horton-Clark (Michael) of Endicott and Desiree (Robert McInroy) Miller of Elmira, two sons, Gary Krusen of Canisteo and Richard Horton of Elmira, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. The family wishes to express a very special thank you to Dr. Brian Cassetta, her personal friend and physician , Dr. Matthew Novak, and numerous other doctors and staff at the Guthrie Group for the excellent care given to Vera over the years. Your compassion, personal and professional care extended her life by years, giving her the opportunity to live a life of great quality. She was a woman of small stature, but her strength and faith guided her thru all the challenges she faced.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St. ,Canisteo on Friday (Jan. 27, 2017) from 11a.m. until noon where Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon with Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
