Wyoming County house fire kills one, injures several others
Fire ripped through a home at 6 Fruit Street just after 7
a.m. Friday in the Wyoming County community of Perry. The adult male victim, believed
to be in his 60’s, has not yet been identified by police. Three other adults
were transported to Strong Memorial in Rochester for treatment. Police said
there was heavy smoke coming from the home when they arrived. The victim was eventually
located in the living room. Perry Police Chief Michael Grover said his officers
were first on the scene but couldn’t safely enter the dwelling because of the
smoke and flames. When asked how his officers deal with these situations, he
replied “they deal with it.” Perry Fire Chief David Spink told reporters that
the county government provides excellent resources to volunteers. The Wyoming
County Sheriff’s Office has taken charge of the fire investigation. Several
oxygen tanks were removed from the home.
