Obituary: Susan Kay (Boucher Versch) Wessel, 77, born in Wellsville

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Susan Kay (Boucher Versch) Wessel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, who departed this life on January 7, 2025 at the age of 77. Surrounded by the love of her family, she left us peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, adventure, and unwavering strength.

Born on May 12, 1947 in Wellsville, NY, Sue brought joy and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing her.  A cheerful family ringleader, Sue's fun-loving spirit and generous heart touched the lives of friends and family alike.

Sue worked at Bennett Manufacturing for over 40 years.  She was a dedicated member of the Allied Sportsman Club for 33 years and served as their membership secretary.  She was fiercely devoted to her family and friends, and she made keeping in touch with them a priority.  Nicknamed "Spoozie", then ‘Seargent Sue” and “Gramma Kitty” she was an avid reader and gardener who adored spending time with her fur babies, Lily and Sadie.  Her home was a sanctuary of love, filled with warmth, stories, and a plate full of food.  She could be found every summer at the cabin in Black Lake, making sure everyone wore their life jackets.  Or passing around a bottle of Fireball!

She made a huge effort to make her loved ones feel special, and would often surprise family and friends with a 'Happy Saturday' gift.

Susan is survived by her husband of 37 years, Gary Wessel, her daughters Terry (Shawn Corey) Scholz and Cindy (Brad Casper) Versch, step sons Scott (Sarah) Wessel and Jeff (Prairie) Wessel, grandchildren Jim (Sarah) Santoro, Rachel (Zach) Szyjka, Amanda Scholz, Jasmine, Anabelle, Milo and Silas Wessel, great grandson Carson Santoro, cherished grand niece Lina Budziszewski along with countless friends and extended family who will continue to honor her memory by living lives rooted in love, kindness, and generosity. She was preceded in death by parents Merle and Marion Boucher, and sister, Kathy (Robert) Butlak, her partner in crime.

Family will be present at the CHARLES MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 13228 Broadway Alden, NY on Saturday, January 11th from 3-7:30 PM. A celebration of her life where we will gather to share memories and celebrate the incredible woman she was will follow at 7:30 PM.

Though she may no longer walk among us, Sue's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved. We are comforted by the thought that her love and light will continue to guide us, even as we grieve her absence.

Rest in peace, dear Susan. You will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
