Obituary: Albert L. Witt, 76, Scio

SCIO – Albert L. Witt, 76, passed away at home on Wednesday (December 11, 2024) in the presence of his loving wife following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Witt was born in Cuba on June 23, 1948 to Clayton F. and Leah B. (Burrows) Witt. He attended Cuba School through the eighth grade and then was needed to help the family. On June 12, 1993, at Knights Creek Evangelical Church, Albert married Cheryl F. Blake, who survives.

Albert worked many years in the logging industry, which he greatly enjoyed, specifically for Fitzpatrick & Weller in Ellicottville. He also worked in potato farming for twelve years. In his later life, he worked at Waters of Houghton Nursing Home and Highland Health Care, where he retired from in 2011.

In addition to his wife of 31 years, Albert is survived by two sons, James (Tammy) Witt of Statesville, N.C. and Joshua (Shelly) Green of Bradford, Pa.; a daughter, Heidi Witt of Albany; three siblings, David (Becky) Witt of Turtle Point, Pa., Sandy (Mike) Piraino of Colorado Springs, Co., and Sylvia (Dean) Greene of Hume; five grandchildren, Randy Truax, Jon Witt, Clayton Witt, Marcus Witt, Sylvia Green, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Albert was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton “Pete” Witt and Daniel Witt and a son, Jason Green.

Albert was mostly a homebody when he wasn’t employed. He delighted in planting flowers and doing yardwork. While he had several collections, his favorite was teapots.

Being very social, Albert loved to shoot the breeze with neighbors, play with his dog, “Ace”, and most of all spend time with his grandchildren.

Albert attended Friendship Bible Baptist Church along with his wife, where he was involved with the men’s group.

There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held in the spring at a time to be announced at Friendship Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Duane Broadwell, officiating. A graveside committal will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Pa. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio.
