On December 27, 2024, at approximately 4:00pm, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to South Main Street in the Village of Castile, for the report of a suicidal male in possession of a handgun following a domestic incident. Upon arrival, deputies learned the subject was alone inside the residence. Phone contact was established with the subject, who confirmed he did have a loaded handgun, and Deputies initiated negotiations. During the course of negotiating with the subject, he exited his residence and fired one shot from the handgun across South Main Street in the direction of Law Enforcement. At this time a SWAT team was requested to the scene, and negotiations continued for several more hours. South Main Street was closed for nearly seven hours during the event. After the subject discontinued contact with

law enforcement, drones were deployed which observed no activity inside the residence. A robot was deployed into the residence where the subject was found deceased from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.

At this time the identity of the deceased will not be released. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by initial responders from the New York State Police and New York State Park Police.
