Alfred Station - Charles O. Jessup age 83 of State Route 244, passed away peacefully on Sunday (August 4, 2024) at UR St James Hospital.He was born in Emporium, PA on August 4, 1941 the son of Charles Jessup and Geraldine Smith Jessup, was a graduate of Cameron County High School in Emporium, PA, and had been in the National Guard for 8 years. He was retired from Southern Tier Concrete in Alfred Station where he had worked for over 44 years. In 1980 he was appointed to the Town of Alfred Planning Board and served in that capacity until his election to the Town Board in 1985. For the next 14 years filled the roles of Councilman, Deputy Supervisor and Supervisor. In 2013 he was appointed as an Allegany County District V Legislator a seat he subsequently won for an additional four-year term. In addition, he served as a member and chairman of both the Allegany County Planning Board and Comprehensive Plan Committee and Comprehensive Plan Implementation Group and was instrumental in drafting and adoption of the County’s first Comprehensive plan. He was also appointed to the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency, the Southern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board of Directors and the Allegany County Telecommunications Development Corporation Board of Directors. Chuck was also a life member of the Kiwanis Club of Hornell, a life member of the Alfred Rod and Gun Club, the NRA, a 30 year trustee of the Alfred Rural Cemetery Assoc. and cofounder of the Sugar Hill Development Corp., and was given the Reagan award in 2017 from the Allegany County Republican Committee. Chuck had also owned and operated his own Tax and Accounting business for 30+ years, and was a Notary Public.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Patrick Jessup in 2010, his brother William Jessup, and his sister Georgia Barker.
He is survived by his wife Linda M. Bates Jessup whom he married on August 7, 1965, his daughter Nicki (David) Dodge of Almond, his son Bryan (Jenn) Jessup of Hornell, his daughter in law Lise, his grandchildren Christopher, Kimberly (Wayne), Justin, Riley, Christian, Collin, Mateo, Santi, and Elis, his 2 great grandchildren Xaiden, and Hailey.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday (August 8, 2024) from 4-6pm at the Bender-Brown& Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell, where a small service will take place at 6:00pm. A Private burial will be at Alfred Rural Cemetery.
