After an extended Illness, James Jay Armstrong passed away
Thursday, August 14, 2024 at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs,
New York. He was born February 20, 1952 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Jay Earl
Armstrong and Louise Carolyn Armstrong (Unger).
James graduated from Pioneer Central School, Yorkshire, NY
in 1970, from State University of Buffalo in 1987, and also attended State
University of Geneseo for Real Estate Sales Training. He worked at Bethlehem
Steel in Lackawanna from 1973 to 1983, Pioneer Land Sales from 1983 to 1986, M
J Peterson for a year, and Christopher Communities, Inc. After a long career,
he retired from the New York State Housing Authority, Urban Planning and
Renewal.
He also served in the US Army Reserves as a Field Radio
Operator from 1982 to 1988, with one year of active service. James had a love
for riding motorcycles, kayaking, fishing, listening to live music, and
collecting and playing guitars. He enjoyed woodworking and was a great
handyman!
He was predeceased by his mother Louise, his father Jay, and
sister Carolyn Abbott. He is survived by his daughter, SMSgt Erin Scheel, her
husband, Joshua and grandchildren, Ian and Annabelle of Colorado Springs,
Colorado. He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon (Rick) Cummings, Kathleen
Schumann, David (Peggy) Armstrong, Genevieve Armstrong, and John (LaNor)
Armstrong, his close friend Colleen Christian, and many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
There will be a gathering on August 24, 2024 at Mark F.
Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, NY from
1-3:00 P.M. with burial to follow at White Cemetery, Rushford, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’s memory may be made
to Mary’s Haven Hospice, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
