Obituary: Coy E. FANTON, 79, of Wellsville, NY, formerly of Andover

 

Coy E. FANTON, 79, of Wellsville, NY, formerly of Andover, died Sunday, August 25, 2024 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.  Born July 8, 1945, in Wellsville, he was the son of Everett and Juanita A. Wright Fanton.  He was a 1964 graduate of Scio Central School.  On April 3, 1966, he married the former Bonita J. Moline, who predeceased him on July 2, 2008.  A Vietnam War Veteran, he served honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 – 1969.  He served with the U.S. Army Reserves from 1972 – 1992.  Coy was employed by Otis Eastern for 40 years, retiring as a superintendent in 2015.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  On July 5, 2014, in Whitesville, he married the former MaryLynn Van Pelt, who survives.  Surviving besides his wife, MaryLynn, are: four sons, Tim (Amy) Fanton of Andover, Todd (Edna) Fanton of Waycross, GA, Kevin (Mary) Fanton of Lake Wylie, SC, and P.J. Fanton of Andover; four grandchildren, Savannah Fanton, Gracie Fanton, Jesse Fanton, and Sophie Fanton; two great-granddaughters; six step-children, Amy Smith of Canisteo, Julie (Dennis) Erdmann of Whitesville, Rob (Kristine) Smith of Genesee, PA, Jill (Robert) Morse of Wellsville, Corey (Robin) Smith of Bradford, PA, and Michael (Kellie) Smith of Whitesville; 13 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Connie Morris of Andover; nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Fanton; and two siblings, John Fanton and Sandra Ward.  A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 28, 2024 in Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses, PA.  Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.  Memorials may be made to the SPCA serving Allegany County, P.O.
