Hope for nursing home visitations

There may be hope on the horizon for New York nursing home residents and their loved ones. A bill sponsored by Assemblyman Harry Bronson would allow for visitation at nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities during the coronavirus pandemic. If approved, each resident in a skilled nursing facility would be allowed two essential caregivers who could visit. It would also allow for compassionate care visits to people with declining physical or emotional conditions. The caregivers would need to undergo COVID-19 testing, temperature check, health screening and use appropriate PPE. Social distancing guidelines will also need to be followed. The proposal is expected to be brought before the Health Committee. A similar bill is being proposed in the State Senate.
