Obituary: Robert Clair “Bob” Worden, 86, of Shinglehouse

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Robert Clair “Bob” Worden, 86, of Shinglehouse, passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Ruth, by his side on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

He was born on Sunday, October 21, 1934 on the farm in Shinglehouse that he has lived on with his wife for the past 50 years.  He was a son of Ross L. and Lurena E. Stillman Worden.  On November 14, 1953 in Shinglehouse, he married Ruth E. Smith, who survives.

He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1952, after which he worked for his father on the family farm on Bells Run where he had spent his youth.  Bob enlisted in the US Army in 1953, honorably serving his country for two years.  He went to work for Clark Brothers, then Air Pre-Heater, and lastly was very proud to be second shift superintendent at Worthington in Wellsville, N.Y., retiring in 1996 after over 30 years of service.

Robert was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper.  He was also an expert flint knapper.  Bob, along with his wife Ruth, enjoyed going to primitive rendezvous, throwing tomahawks and shooting primitive archery, having traveled to many states to do so. 

Surviving are his wife of 67 years; four children, Robert L. Worden of Maui, Hawaii, Renee (Howard) Sturdevant of Shinglehouse, Rochelle (Bob Stephenson) Worden of Collingdale, and Andy (Kaylee) Worden of Smethport; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by three siblings, Opal Higgins, Dawn Prince, and Ronald Worden.

There will be no services at this time.

Robert’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
