Walgreens is inching closer to building a new, but smaller store in Wellsville. Wednesday night, the town board approved a State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) which found there would be no harmful environmental issues for the proposed construction at 4181 Bolivar Road (the former RMT plant) and close to a 'stones throw' from the store Walgreens currently operates on Bolivar Road. According to The Spectator, town officials said it is their understanding the new Walgreens will have a smaller footprint than the 10 N. Main St. location and feature a drive-through option. It is believed part of the current structure at 4181 Bolivar Rd. may be demolished to make room for construction. The new store is expected to include a drive-thru, which the company has said every store should have one. The current Bolivar Road operation doesn't have one. When Walgreens purchased the former Rite Aid store, sources said the footprint needs to be reduced and the inventory of products needed to be scaled back.
The Spectator reported that...Walgreens is “good to proceed” on the project, said town councilman Jesse Case, who led the SEQR process.
