William H Garvey Jr., 86, Orlando, Florida passed away on
Wednesday, July 31, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born to
the late William H and Myrtle (Van Thof) Garvey Sr. He was preceded in death by
his sibling Betty Herman and survived by two siblings, Beverly Harder (Naples,
FL) and Joan Rosell (Wellsville, NY). Bill graduated from Wellsville High
School and on June 23, 1956 he married the love of his life, Constance (Connie)
Gibbs, at Immaculate Conception Catholic church.
He is survived by his wife Connie and his daughters Cynthia
(Michael) Nicoloff, Orlando, FL; Diana (Michael) Jackson, Sebastian, FL and
Sheila (Mark) Brandes, Titusville, FL. One grand-daughter Casey (Christopher)
Poulos, Orlando, FL and grand-son Chad (Cristina) Nicoloff, Smyrna, Ga. Bill
leaves behind four great-grandchildren Addison and Nicholas Poulos and Noah and
Emma Kate Nicoloff.
He was a member of Wellsville Volunteer Fire Dept. and was an
active member of the Wellsville Lions Club. He started his work career at
Worthington Corporation in Wellsville and then became owner/operator of
Garvey’s Mobil Station on Main Street from 1960 – 1971 where he then purchased
Bill Garvey Cadillac Olds, GMC trucks, which he sold in 1985, to move closer to
his immediate family in Orlando, FL.
Bill was a member of the Wellsville Country Club and Rio
Pinar Country Club in Orlando, FL where he was an avid golfer up until his
phrase “I can’t remember if I did or was I gonna” became his reality. Christmas
was always his favorite time of year and we had fond memories of him dressing
up as Santa and reading the night before Christmas each year.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Carey Hand
Colonial Funeral Home, Orlando, FL. A Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St James
Cathedral (215 N Orange Ave, Downtown Orlando, FL) on Saturday, August 10th.
