Based in the Wellsville area, he has routinely been one of the busiest coroners in Allegany County. In 2018, there were 109 coroner cases; Crowell handled 88 of them. Autopsies were required in 37 cases, including one homicide.
There are four elected coroners in Allegany County. With the departure of Crowell, there will actually be a contested race in November. Running as incumbents are Mark Rinker of Cuba, Maynard "Bud" Baker of Andover and L. Herbert Williams of Fillmore. Newcomers include Chester Gosper of Angelica, running on the Democrat line and Dylan Foust of Wellsville, running on the Republican line. They both work at funeral homes in their communities.
Crowell is a graduate of Rushford high school and Simmons
Institute of funeral service. He served honorably with the U.S. Army in the
Korean War. Ted has served the
Wellsville area as a funeral director since 1962.
