Obituary: Jerome J. "Jerry" Eckert, 87, Galeton

Jerome J. “Jerry” ECKERT, 87, of Galeton, PA, died Thursday, January 10, 2019 in his home.  Born November 14, 1931, in St. Marys, PA, he was the son of Ferdinand and Sara Wolfe Eckert.  On February 12, 1955, in St. Marys, he married the former Constance L. “Connie” Weber, who predeceased him on February 13, 2013.  A Korean War Veteran, he served honorably with the US Army.  Jerry began his career as a heavy equipment operator on the Niagara Power Project, Kinzua Dam, and on numerous pipeline projects.  Beginning in the early 1960’s, he owned and operated several businesses including Allegheny Mountain Construction, Conn-E Construction, and North Penn Supply.  He was a member of St. Bibiana Church, Galeton, Knights of Columbus 4thDegree, Toastmasters, Galeton Area Chamber of Commerce, and Galeton Rotary. His most treasured roles were those of husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.  Surviving are:  four children, Debra Eckert of Galeton, Joseph (Wendy) Eckert of Galeton, Brian (Toni) Eckert of Bernville, and Karen (John Kohl) Eckert of York;  ten grandchildren, Benjamin, Holly, Matthew, Jessica, Kathryn, Carlene, Morgan, Harris, Jarred, and Alexandra;  ten great-grandchildren;  eight sibings, Peter Eckert, Michael Eckert, Patrick Eckert, Arthur Eckert, Ronald Eckert, Virginia Murphy, Faith Dankmeyer, Victoria Akre;  nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two daughters, Pamela Eckert and Patricia Eckert;  and four siblings, Alphonse Eckert, Margaret Mary Krug, Raphael Eckert, and Esther Keller. Friends may call at St. Bibiana Church, Galeton, on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 AM.  The Rev. Joseph V. Dougherty will be the Celebrant.  Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton.  Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Memorials may be made to St. Rose of Lima School, 115 N Biesecker Rd, Thomasville, PA 17364.  Arrangements are entrusted to Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA.  Online condolences may be expressed and florist information obtained at www.olneyfuneralhome.com.
