Kimberly A. “Kim” Hawley, 43, of 31 Church St., Hornell,
died Sunday evening (January 13, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital, surrounded
by her family, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Born in
Hornell on June 15, 1975, she was the daughter of Schuyler & Mary (Roberts)
Hawley.
Kim grew up in Hornell and attended St. Ann’s School. She later graduated from Hornell High School
(Class of 1993). While in high school
and for about 3 years after graduation, she was employed at Wegman’s Grocery of
Hornell in various capacities and departments, including cashier, front end
coordinator at the front desk, meat department, deli department and primarily
the bakery.
In 1996 Kim moved to Rome, NY where she earned her
Associate’s Degree at Mohawk Valley College, graduating in 1999 as a
paralegal. For the next 15 years she
served as a paralegal for various lawyers in the Utica, Rochester & Hornell
areas.
Moving back to Hornell in 2001, Kim. In addition to serving
as a paralegal, was also employed at the former Elsenheimer Chevrolet as a
“Title Clerk” from 2001 - 2004. For six
years (2004 - 2010) she worked at Alfred State College as assistant manager at
Friendly’s food Court. During this time,
she served as a legal secretary for Shults & Shults Law Firm of Hornell and
as a paralegal for Boylan & Brown Law Firm of Rochester, NY.
From 2012 - 2016, Kim worked as a purchasing agent, sales
lady and in the advertising department of Erica Leigh Clothing of Hornell. In December, 2016, she began working for
Venture Forth of Niagara Falls, working with Hospice patients and Alzheimer’s
patients as a “traveling medical aid” throughout Steuben County, Allegany
County & Livingston County. Since
moving back to Hornell in 2001, Kim served as a “freelance” paralegal, helping
her friends & family with legal problems.
She was a former member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and
had been a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.
In recent years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Hornell. In December, 2015, Kim became
an Ordained Minister and since that time has celebrated several marriages,
baptisms & funerals. As an ordained
minister Kim has also served as a councilor for various women’s groups.
Kim is survived by 1 son, William (Angela) Pratt III of
Hornell; 7 daughters, Allison (Luke Yarka) Pratt, Samantha Jordan, Taylor
(Austin Miller) Jordan, Kylie Turner, Lillian Hawley, Payton Hann & Gracy
Hawley, all of Hornell; her father, Schuyler Hawley of Hornell; her mother,
Mary Hawley Cash of Saquite, NY; 2 brothers, Schuyler “Sky” Hawley of Hornell
and Alec Hawley of Florida; 1 sister, Katrina (Joe) Shunk of Rome, NY; 10
grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.
At Kimberley’s request there will be no prior calling
hours. Family & friends are invited
to a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday (January 26, 2019) from 12:00 Noon –
4:00 p.m. at the Consuming Fire Ministries, 6017 Magee Road, Canisteo, NY 14823
(Hornell – Canisteo back road). Final
interment will be in Rural Cemetery.
