NEWS: When God's People Pray to be Presented at Scio Church

When God's People Pray, a free six-week study on how prayer can change lives and circumstances like nothing else can, will start this month at a Scio church, the latest in a series of activities to expand the prayer life of congregants and the community.
The lessons will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sundays, beginning January 27, as part of Knights Creek Church's Sunday School curriculum.  Individuals from other area churches are invited to participate and still have time to attend 11 a.m. services at their own churches.  The church is located at 2987 Knights Creek Road (County Road 9), four miles south of Scio.
The DVD/discussion series will be narrated by Jim Cymbala, senior pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York City that grew through prayere from a handful of attendees in a small, rundown building in a difficult area of the city, to thousands, including a Tuesday night prayer gathering that also draws thousands.
When God's People Pray is designed to help individuals understand, personalize and apply powerful, life-changing concepts of prayer and help those who pray to do so with confidence, passion, focus and faith.  Topics include God's Heart for Us, The Amazing Power of Prayer, Obedience in Prayer, The Word of God and Prayer, Why Prayer Matters and Creating a Prayer Ministry in Your Church.
Pastor Carl Kemp said the series is another component
of an ongoing focus on prayer at Knights Creek which has resulted in many blessings to congregants, the church as a whole, and the community.
The church has been hosting a 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. public prayer gathering and Bible study every weekday for over a year during which many prayers for individual, local, county, state, national and world concerns have been answered and many new activities inspired, the pastor said.  It also hosts a 6 p.m. Wednesday Bible study and prayer.
Many new community initiatives have started in the small congregation which describes itself as A Country Church with the Heart of Christ.  These include a new music focus by its Venezuelan music team led by David Peralta, a music missionary and member of the Simon Bolivar Venezuelan National Symphony Orchestra, free weekly music lessons for children and adults that included a summer music camp for children and youth.
Free Community Dinners also have been started each Sunday after the church's 11 a.m. service, holiday and other special occasion dinners, a rejuvenated youth group for school children, Celebrate Recovery | Celebrate Victory support at 7 p.m. every Saturday for individuals experiencing any type of hurt, hangup, habit, struggle or destructive behavior, either personally or within their families, along with participation in Celebrate Recovery Inside for inmates at Allegany County Jail, holiday grief support ministries for those experiencing the loss of a loved one due to death, separation or divorce, including a seminar for adults to Help Grieving Children, and First Friday of the month celebrations for individuals and families, alternating between free coffee houses and movie nights.
Church members also are involved with development of the new Hope Center outreach and reading assistance initiative in Wellsville and the Mission Genesee Valley Journey to Transformation community transformation and revival initiative.
