CANISTEO: Leonard D. Campbell, age 81, of Slate Creek Rd.,
passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 15, 2019.
He was born May 9, 1937 in Galeton, Pennsylvania to Russell
J. and Kathleen (Ludwig) Campbell. Leonard graduated from Canisteo Central
School in 1956. On June 1, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Jane
Mullen, at Hornell Gospel Center by Reverend Stewart Brady.
Together they had three daughters. Leonard worked as a
serviceman for over 30 years at Agway, serving in many different positions. He
worked as a fuel delivery driver, farm equipment installation and serviceman
and later, in sales. After his retirement, Leonard took a job as a millwright
at Ulysses Woodcraft where he worked for 10 years.
Leonard enjoyed working and serving his community. He served
in the U.S. National Guard and was elected to the positions of town assessor,
councilman, and constable for the town of Hartsville. He also served as both a
deacon and trustee at Bennetts Creek Bible Church for many years. Leonard's
special interest and hobbies included raising a family, participating in his
community and church, tinkering in the garage, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jane; three
daughters, Marlene (Ralph) Charlton of Springwater, Laurie (Mark) Lawton of
Nunda and Stephanie (Richard) Williams of Hunt; five grandchildren, Noelle
Lawton, Benjamin (Heidi) Lawton, Victoria Williams, Emily Williams and Jacob
Williams; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a
brother Russell Campbell and a sister Beatrice Stewart.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Leonard touched are
invited to the Bennetts Creek Bible Church, 3740 State Route 248, Canisteo, NY,
at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 for a memorial service to celebrate
his life.
