Whitney wins Republican primary for Allegany County Sheriff

Ricky Whitney will remain the Allegany County Sheriff. He held off a challenge by Walt Mackney of Andover. The unofficial results:
Whitney 1,757
Mackney 1,425
The results mean game over for Mackney, who did not secure any other ballot line for the November election. Whitney had secured the Conservative line as well.

In a statement released early Friday morning, Whitney said "Thank you to everyone who supported us. Thank you to my wife Lois without her I would have never made it through the summer, she is my rock. Thank you to my campaign staff, you guys are awesome! Thank you to everyone who put up a sign or signed my petition. Thank you to all the employees at the Sheriff's office, I ran on my record and my record is what it is because of your hard work and professionalism. I couldn't be more proud of our Sheriff's Office and all of you, and I look forward to working with you for the next four years."

Mr. Mackney released this statement:
"Well it has been a great ride but for now the ride has come to an end.
The voters have spoken and they have decided to retain Rick Whitney as their Sheriff. Although this is not the outcome we had hoped for it is nonetheless the outcome that we have and we must move forward from here.
I would like to thank all of my supporters and friends for their efforts on my behalf. They made it possible to provide the people of Allegany County with a choice and having a choice is importa...nt.
During my campaign I have met some wonderful people and I have learned so much. I hope to continue to learn from you and I sincerely thank you for your warm welcome wherever I went.
I would also like to thank my campaign staff because without them, I would not have made it as far as I did. I cannot express the gratitude I have for all of the sacrifices they made on my behalf.
I would especially like to thank my loving wife and family who stood by me through this whole ordeal. They continue to be my strength and I cannot thank them enough for standing beside me.
Congratulations to Sheriff Whitney on your win. I earnestly wish you well and I hope that you are successful in carrying out your goals for Allegany County. If nothing else, I hope I made you think and reflect and maybe some changes will be forthcoming.
As for me I will continue to serve the people of Allegany and Steuben Counties in the law enforcement roles that I currently hold. I will continue to train civilians and police officers and serve in all aspects of the profession that I love.
Thank you all again. God bless you and the people of Allegany County, the State of New York and God bless the United States of America."
