Obituary: David Robert Fisher, 77, Belfast

BELFAST — David Robert Fisher, 77, of 114 Main St., passed away Sunday (Sept. 9, 2018) at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, following a brief illness. Born Oct. 15, 1940, in Niagara Falls, he was the son of George and Laura Fisher. David had grown up in Niagara Falls and Belfast. He attended both Belfast Central School and later La Salle High School in Niagara Falls. After high school, David served with the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964 and with the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1966. He saw combat as a Seabee in the Navy in Vietnam. After service to his country, he went to Chicago, where he worked as a steelworker. Returning to Belfast, he was employed at several different machine shops in the area. David was a member of the Belfast Ambulance Squad. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator and also liked doing word search puzzles. Surviving are a son, Joseph Fisher of Scio; two daughters, Kristine Howe of Warsaw and Laura Slocum of Wellsville; and several grandchildren. There will be no visitation or funeral.
